Reduce, reuse and recycle is one of the important environment related program that we need to look into seriously. Reduce, reuse and recycle comprises of 3 different ways of saving the environment from pollution. Reduce is the most effective component, as reducing the waste is more important than reuse the created waste and recycle it. Reuse being the second component of the project provides a way of utilizing the waste into a useful item. Recycle is the third component and final component of the project. Recovery method is used to produce electricity or to produce raw materials for new products.
A Reduce, Reuse and Recycle event was organized by Pharmaceutical Chemistry students, intake PC 1/11, on the 4th and 5th of September 2012. Recycle crafts exhibition made by students and awareness on 3R concept by activities like games, demonstration on how to make recycle paper, paper bag exchange and words from IMU personalities was conducted. The objective of 3R event is to bring awareness among the people about the important of adequate solid waste management and promote environmental friendly alternatives such as the use of biodegradable and paper bags instead of plastic or polyethylene items when shopping.
My friends, Abirami Vijayakumar and Shubhashini together with myself were in charge of atrium decoration. After discussed with Mr. Lim on how to decorate the atrium, Mr. Lim gave us an idea of creating a banner out of cut boards to save cost and go green. Three of us collected some boxes from Ricoh. Thanks to the brothers working at Ricoh for providing us the boxes. It took us 1 week to complete the banner in our tight schedule. We managed to finis the banner on time by finding time in between classes and after classes. Besides that, we also planned to hang cloth on the atrium as part of d decoration. Mr. Lim borrowed clothes for decoration from Dr. Sheba, thanks to her. Another friend of mine, Joe Jen Tan helped me out to decorate the atrium using clothes. Thanks to him as well. Three of us also involved in the arranging the words from IMU personalities. For that we interviewed a few lecturers, staffs and students of IMU.
I exhibited my craft "USB Tabletop Water Fountain". The exhibition received support from IMU staffs and students. Our crafts were evaluated by lecturers and prizes were given. I received a consolation prize for my craft. On the second day, we sold our crafts to raise money for charity. The money raised was included in IMU charity account in the name of PC 1/11.
I had a good time. It was my first experience of organizing an event together with my whole class. We divided our work and did it excellently. Thanks to all my classmates who make this event a success. Not to forget Mr. Lim and other lecturers who supported us. Thank you.
